Piglet

Did you know: Newborn piglets can recognize their mother's voice within 48 hours of birth.

About the Piglet

Piglets are young pigs, typically under eight weeks old. These adorable creatures are born after a gestation period of about 114 days. Piglets are born with sharp teeth and can walk within minutes of birth. They quickly establish a teat order, with each piglet having its own preferred teat on the mother. Piglets grow rapidly, doubling their birth weight in just 14 days. They are playful and curious, often seen running around and play-fighting with their siblings. This play is crucial for their physical and social development. Piglets are born with stripes which fade as they grow older, an evolutionary remnant from their wild boar ancestors that helped camouflage them in the forest.
