Baby Llama

Did you know: Baby llamas, called crias, can stand and walk within an hour of birth.

About the Baby Llama

Baby llamas, known as crias, are adorable and precocious creatures. Born after an 11-month gestation period, these youngsters are remarkably developed at birth. Crias typically weigh between 20-35 pounds and stand about 3 feet tall. They have a woolly coat that helps regulate their body temperature in the high-altitude environments where llamas naturally live. Crias stay close to their mothers for the first few months of life, nursing and learning important social behaviors.
