Foal

Foal

Did you know: Foals can run within hours of being born.

About the Foal

A foal is a young horse, typically under one year old. These long-legged babies are born after an 11-month gestation period and can stand and nurse within the first hour of life. Foals are born with soft hooves that harden as they begin to walk and run. They have a close bond with their mothers, staying by their side for protection and nourishment. As they grow, foals become more playful and curious, often seen frolicking in fields. Their coat color can change as they mature, sometimes dramatically from their birth color.
