Fawn

Did you know: Fawns are born scent-free to avoid attracting predators.

About the Fawn

A fawn is a young deer, typically less than a year old. These endearing creatures are born with reddish-brown fur covered in white spots, which serve as camouflage in the dappled light of their forest habitats. Fawns are born with their eyes open and can stand and walk within hours of birth, but they spend much of their first few weeks lying still in hiding while their mother forages. The mother deer, or doe, returns periodically to nurse the fawn. As they grow, fawns begin to follow their mothers and learn essential survival skills.
