About the Elk

Elk, also known as wapiti, are large deer native to North America and eastern Asia. These majestic animals are known for their impressive antlers, which can grow up to 1 inch per day during the summer months. Elk are social animals, living in single-sex groups for most of the year, coming together during the mating season in the fall. They are herbivores, grazing on grasses, plants, leaves, and bark. Elk play an important role in their ecosystems, affecting vegetation through their grazing and providing food for predators like wolves and bears.
