Icelandic Horse

Did you know: Icelandic horses have two additional gaits compared to other horse breeds: the tölt and the flying pace.
About the Icelandic Horse
The Icelandic horse is a unique breed native to Iceland, known for its small stature, hardiness, and five natural gaits. Despite their pony-like size, they are always referred to as horses. Icelandic horses have been purebred for over 1,000 years, as no horses are allowed to be imported into Iceland. They have thick, double coats that protect them from harsh Icelandic weather. These horses are known for their sure-footedness and ability to cross rough terrain. The tölt, one of their unique gaits, is a four-beat lateral ambling gait known for its smoothness and speed. Icelandic horses are versatile, used for traditional farm work, leisure riding, and horse shows.
