About the Killer Whale

Killer whales, also known as orcas, are apex predators found in all of the world's oceans. These highly intelligent marine mammals are known for their distinctive black and white coloration and tall dorsal fins. Killer whales are incredibly social, living in stable family groups called pods. They have a diverse diet, hunting everything from fish to seals and even other whales, employing sophisticated hunting strategies that are often passed down through generations. Orcas are known for their complex vocalizations and dialects that differ between pods. They have one of the longest lifespans of any mammal, with females living up to 90 years in the wild. Despite their name, there are no recorded fatal attacks on humans by wild killer whales.
