About the Guinea Pig

Guinea pigs, also known as cavies, are small rodents native to South America. Despite their name, they're not related to pigs and don't come from Guinea. These social animals are popular pets known for their gentle nature and variety of vocalizations. Guinea pigs are herbivores with continuously growing teeth, requiring a diet high in fiber. They have poor eyesight but acute hearing and sense of smell. In the wild, guinea pigs live in groups and are most active at dawn and dusk. As pets, they require social interaction and can form strong bonds with their human caregivers.
